FAQ

What is the AS Technology Rental Program?
We provide productivity items to students who need them. Students will be able to borrow a tech item provided by AS for a quarter or more. Depending on the loan period they opt for, they will be required to return the item by the deadline. This idea found its spark from a similar program that has been implemented by the Associated Students of UCLA and UCSD.

What items are available to rent, how much do they cost, and how long can I rent them for?

*Failure to return your item in working condition before the due date will result in a charge of its liability value to your BARC account, which covers the cost of the item and their rechargeable batteries. The liability is increased as an incentive to return rental items on time.
Are there any late fees?
Yes. If students do not return the item on time, then they will be given a 10 day late fee period to return the item. 10% of the liability will be accrued each day it’s late for up to 10 days (school days). After 10 school days, the total late fee would match the liability of the item. The liability is charged to the student’s BARC because it is assumed that the student has lost the item.

For example, the liability of calculators will be valued at $50. The student will be charged with a late fee of 10% of that liability value (so $5 in the case of calculators) each day of the late fee period until they return the item or the late return period (of 10 days) has passed.
When do I return my item?
Weekly items must be returned to the AS Cashiers and Ticket Office by 5PM every Monday through Friday (that is when the office closes). Quarterly items must be returned by the last day of the quarter before 5PM to the ticket office.
What should I do if want to re-rent it for next quarter?
You must bring the loaned item to the AS Ticket Office and renew it. The cashiers will re-input the the data and loan it out to you again. A new liability waiver and information form will not be necessary for renewal since they’ve been filled out already. However, the due date of the item will shift to the new quarter.
What happens if my item has dead batteries?
The student must return to the AS Ticket Office and exchange the batteries. This will be done free of charge.
